Staying Current with the Current

Deep Dive continues to make waves in their quest to be the best app in the fishing business by adding yet another valuable tool to their pro suite of real-time fishing conditions for lakes across the country. This time, they have effectively addressed an angler’s incessant need to know dam generation schedules in real-time with the introduction of the Generation Releases tool.

As the name implies, anglers now have instantaneous access to exactly how many generators are currently running at dams operated by the TVA and Alabama Power. In addition, app users can also see how many generators have been running for how long and when individual generators are scheduled to turn on or off. Since the number of operating generators determines how much current is pulled through a dam, knowing when individual generators are on or off has become critical real-time information that can help catch more bass.

While other apps can also provide this data, Deep Dive presents this information in a concise, easy-to-read format. Similar to Deep Dive’s other real-time tools, the app converts the data from a numeric chart form into an animated graphic rendered over time, showing how generator use will increase or decrease.

The Generation Releases graphic of a lake simultaneously shows the number of generators operating on the lake’s outflowing dam and on the lake’s inflowing dam. The ability to see both dams’ flows simultaneously is critical because reservoir current is not just about how much water is leaving a lake; it’s also about how much is entering a lake. If water is only being pulled from a lake’s dam, it only creates current in certain portions of the lake. But if both the upper and lower dams are generating, this creates a true current throughout the reservoir, making the main channel more like a river than a lake. In turn, bass set up in more predictable locations in current breaks and eddies. Knowing exactly when these releases are on or off, and when the upper and lower dams are “in synch,” helps make better-informed decisions during a fishing day.

If you fish any of the 47 lakes across the Southeast operated by the TVA or Alabama Power, then the Generation Releases tool is a must-have. This newest addition to Deep Dive’s powerful pro suite of fishing tools can help you stay more current with the current.
